讯得达社区的家人们,

首先是一些简短的通知。


上周,教务部首次对所有学生成绩进行了月度审查,并排查出成绩待提高的学生。以本学期目前科目平均分低于75分为标准,符合这一标准的学生家长都收到了学校发出的学术预警信。我们的主要目标是让所有学生都了解自己的学习情况。根据老师的建议,学校可能会要求这些学生参加ECA(课外活动)期间的强制性补习辅导课程。需要注意的是,学生有时会在学习过程中遇到困难,这封预警信请不要太过担忧。我们希望得到家长的支持,确保孩子在遇到困难时能够想办法解决问题,并在学业上取得出色的表现。


本周五是期中考试第一天(共三天)。考试结果以及每位学生本学期整体表现报告将在10月26日的家长会当天发给家长。我们邀请所有家长借此机会参加家长会,直接与老师详细探讨孩子的表现。鼓励家长带孩子一起,以便在与老师一对一沟通时孩子在现场倾听和了解。


回顾最近的一些事项,我很高兴跟大家分享我们近期的活动。


国庆假期前,伯克利音乐学院招生助理主任Daniel Abussi先生来访。Abussi先生是招生委员会成员,也是面试官。我们的三毛交响乐团表演了歌剧《魅影》中的混合歌曲,向Abussi先生致敬,他表示这个表演给他留下了深刻的印象。在简短地介绍了伯克利音乐学院之后,Abussi先生还回答了许多学生关于伯克利和音乐专业的问题。

Let me begin with a few brief announcements.

 

Last week, the Academic Affairs Office conducted our first monthly Early Warning review of all student grades to identify underperforming students. We have defined underperforming to mean students who at this point in the semester have a course average of below 75. Parents of students who fit this criterion were sent warning letters explaining the situation. Our primary goal is to ensure all students remain aware of their academic performance. At the recommendation of teachers, the school may require underperforming students to participate in mandatory remedial tutoring sessions during ECA time. Please note, from time to time all students encounter difficulty in their coursework so receiving a single warning letter is not cause for panic. We hope to have the support of parents to ensure their children resolve whatever problems they’re encountering and excel academically.

 

Friday is the start of three days of midterm exams. The results of the exams as well as reports on each student’s overall performance so far this semester will be made available to parents during our October 26th Open House. We invite all parents to participate in this opportunity to discuss their children’s performance in detail directly with their teachers. We also encourage parents to bring their children with them so that they can be present during the one-on-one conferences with teachers.


Pivoting to a recap of recent events, I am pleased to report a wide array of activities are underway.


Before the holiday break, we were visited by Mr. Daniel Abussi, Assistant Director of Admissions for the Berklee College of Music. Mr. Abussi sits on the admissions committee and is a judge of student auditions. Our Sanmao Orchestral Band greeted Mr. Abussi with a performance of a medley of songs from “The Phantom of the Opera,” which he said impressed him. After giving a short presentation about Berklee, Mr. Abussi answered a number of students’ questions about the school and the music profession.

理科学生已经开始了他们的第一个实验。王博士和Racine博士带领高中学生进行了运动学实验,这是一种预测物体运动的科学。刘旖旎老师带领AP化学专业的学生做滴定实验。

Science students have begun their first lab experiments. Both Dr. Wang and Dr. Racine have led high school students in experiments in kinematics, the science of predicting the motion of objects. Ms. Yini Liu has led her AP Chemistry students in titration experiments. 


Meanwhile, our Grade 7 students ventured off campus to take part in a field trip to the Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute for a morning of hands-on learning about robotics.

在《AP艺术史》中,学生通过对来自世界各地的各种艺术品的课堂介绍来练习自己的公开演讲技能,从而增进他们对其他文化的了解。

 

上周,我们手语社成员参观了百灵鸟听障儿童康复园,进行了一上午的实地调查。此次旅行学到的经验将为未来学生努力提高对残疾儿童的认知,并为改善聋哑人与他人之间的交流便利性研究做出贡献。


学生和老师不仅仅只有纯粹学习。最近在课后,学生和老师参加了一场友谊足球赛。非常好地展示了教师和学生为促进校园文化而作出的努力,在这里我们都感到自己是这个大家庭的一份子。

In AP Art History, our students are growing their knowledge of other cultures as they practice their public speaking skills through class presentations on various artworks from around the world.

 

Last week, several members of our Sign Language Club visited the Lark Hearing Impaired Children's Rehabilitation Park for a morning of field investigations. Lessons learned from the trip will inform future student efforts to raise awareness about disabled children and contribute to research aimed at improving the ease of communication between the deaf and others. 

 

Students and teachers are not exclusively engaged in purely academic activities. Recently, students and teachers participated in a friendly after school soccer match. This is a wonderful demonstration of some of the organic efforts teachers and students are making to promote a campus culture where we all feel as part of one family.

I’d like to close this week by congratulating one of our science teachers, Mr. Adam McIlmoyle, on winning first prize in the People’s Daily “Discover China in Your Own Eyes” competition.

如果可以,在文学作品中你最希望改写谁的命运?————————————————2019我校双旦晚会,中国文化研究社(简称汉研社)给大家带来了短剧《红楼梦新编》,重写了贾宝玉和林黛玉的结局,成就了这一对眷侣。提到中国古代的传统民俗,嫁娶便是从来绕不开的一个话题。中国传统文化的精髓都浓缩在婚礼流程当中。从提亲,到迎亲,再到拜堂,无不体现出古代人对于“礼”的哲学思想。 本次汉研社选择了婚礼作为主题,一是为了衬托出 放假 新年的喜庆,同时,也想弥补一下心中的遗憾:能否改写《红楼梦》中林黛玉的结局?于是,本次短剧便诞生了。筹备由于篇幅原因,我们决定重点体现布置,迎亲,拜堂三个过程。同时,这也是古代婚礼最具代表性的三个流程。  ———————————————————探讨剧情⬇服饰因为背景设定,演员服装选择了明制汉服。Show Time⬇上袄+马面裙(雪雁...
